Design Trends: What’s New and Notable Among Buyers at Neal Signature Homes

The design experts at Neal Signature Homes help buyers create the home of their dreams with lots of personal touches. And while customization is at the forefront of everything they do, they are seeing some general design trends among clients these days.

Since everyone has been spending a lot more time at home lately, buyers are desiring space for both practical elements like offices and exercise rooms and fun additions like theater rooms and bars. Outdoor areas are also being designed with a lot of extra features.

“Customers are treating outdoor spaces like an extension of indoor spaces, with upscale furniture, huge TVs with surround sound, fireplaces and outdoor kitchens with lots of bells and whistles,” says Marcela Serio, design consultant for Neal Signature Homes.

Floorplans are becoming even more open, and kitchen islands keep growing in size and stature. “Double kitchen islands are entering the scene,” says Serio. “For countertops, quartz is in and granite is out. In many cases, countertops are simple, and backsplashes are the jewelry.”

In the bath, freestanding tubs are still popular with buyers. But so are spa-like showers with multiple showerheads and smart digital valves. “You can say, ‘Alexa, turn my shower on,’” says Serio.

On walls and cabinetry, gray is becoming less ubiquitous than in recent years, with buyers gravitating toward whites and warm neutrals. They’re also starting to think beyond just subdued shades. “I think we are going to see an influx of color to replace years of no color,” says Serio.

For flooring, buyers are thinking big, whether they’re choosing tile or wood-look options. Think large-format tiles in sizes like 18” by 36” or 24” by 24”, or wood-like tiles in an 8” by 48” size.

In terms of overall look, modern and contemporary design styles have been embraced by customers of late. But in Florida, the ever-popular coastal look is also always in vogue.

“When buyers relocate here from up north, many of them want a more coastal ‘Florida’ look that’s different than what they had been living with before,” says Janet Ladwig, vice president of Charlene Neal Pure Style, which works with Neal Signature Homes buyers. “So I don’t think the coastal-inspired look will ever go away.”

  • A Custom Home for the Crofoots

A Custom Home for the Crofoots

When Jennifer and Dave Crofoot looked for ways to retrofit their home, they found the price of ADA compliant designs, construction and installation, far outweighed the value of their current home. As their son, Easton, grows up, they want independence for him, to be able to come and go as he pleases, with limited assistance. Easton, like many young boys, loves cars and trucks and is developing his own personality and confidence. Born with spina bifida, Easton uses a wheelchair for mobility, and his parents envisioned a ramp and other accessible tools to assist their son at home.

That’s why they turned to Neal Signature Homes. Rather than deal with the impacts of living with construction, as well as the time and costs associated, they saw value in building a new home with design selections made from the beginning. The Crofoots were familiar with the builder’s reputation, and, they were also interested in learning more about the ways their vision for Easton’s future could become a reality. As they explored design and structure options available, a beautiful home site in River Wind presented as the perfect location. Jennifer and Dave were ready, now it was up to Easton.

According to Easton, there was no doubt this was the right decision. Four years ago, while playing at a neighborhood park, Easton befriended a little girl named Mila. From the start, the two played together as if they had known each other for years. As their friendship grew, so did relationships between the families. Mila is the grand-daughter of Nancy and Mike Storey, president of Neal Signature Homes. It seemed as if all along, this was meant to be.

“We are incredibly blessed to have found a company that is taking such great care of us with the attention to the details that will make a huge difference in Easton’s future and independence,” says Jennifer. “I knew that we could count on Neal to meet our special needs in regard to Easton and exceed our expectations in building a dream home for Dave and I.”

Building a new home for the Crofoots that was not just ADA compliant, but designed around their tastes and lifestyles is what Neal Signature Homes is renowned for. We are proud to welcome the Crofoots to their new home and wish them many years of love and happiness.

  • A Message on COVID-19 from Neal Signature Homes

A Message on COVID-19 from Neal Signature Homes

The home buying journey is typically a personal, memorable and exciting one - and while the current situation regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus) is disrupting everyone’s daily lives, Neal Signature Homes remains committed to building the American Dream of homeownership. However, with the current circumstances in mind, we want to update you on how Neal Signature Homes is addressing concerns stemming from this and assure you that we have the health and safety of our customers (you), as well as that of our team members, trade partners and vendors, as a top priority.

Our model homes and sales centers are maintained to the highest standards, and we are taking heightened precautions to increase the frequency of our cleanings, as well as focusing on doorknobs, handles, light switches and countertops. Additionally, our on-site sales professionals are instructed to wipe down those same surfaces multiple times daily.

Unlike other highly-affected businesses (i.e. retail, hospitality, entertainment), which see high traffic, tight spaces, hand-to-surface contact and lots of human interaction, our sales centers are normally quiet and provide sufficient space for people to practice effective social distancing. For this reason, maintaining a sales presence for your home buying journey, for as long as we safely can, is our commitment to you.

If you plan on visiting us, we kindly ask that if you or those close to you have recently traveled to a destination which the CDC has listed as Level 2 or 3, been on a cruise ship, or have experienced any flu-like symptoms, please wait two or more weeks before you visit one of our sales centers.

Furthermore, we ask that during your visit to one of our sales centers, you observe social distancing practices and also avoid touching things such as surfaces and artifacts within our homes. To keep the experience even healthier, when you do come to see us, we will gladly greet you with a smile rather than our preferred handshake.

In addition to our sales offices being open, we continue to offer resources both over the phone and online. Our Online Sales Consultants are ready to answer any questions you may have about our communities and homes, on the phone. From there, they will be able to set up appointments for private tours of our homes and communities with our sales professionals. Should you prefer to get a virtual (live) tour of our homes and/or community via Facetime or WhatsApp, we are happy to accommodate those wishes. We will continue to add information, photos and virtual tours to our community webpages to help you with your home search.

We continue to closely monitor this fluid situation and act in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) recommendations to help slow the spread of the virus. For that, we are applying social distancing measures, as well as personal hygiene (i.e. proper handwashing, wiping surfaces after use, hand sanitizer use), as prescribed. Further, we have instructed any employee who feels any kind of sickness and/or is (has been) exposed to any known sickness, to visit their healthcare provider and stay home until they are fully cleared to come back.

We look forward to serving you throughout your home buying journey and hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.
